This is a bloody good piece of kit! I have no doubt it's an original; for example, the backing board is solid Bakelite!
The one I got is in excellent condition, and even has original chalk and pencil markings on the clear internal map cover. Mine is marked 1944; I can only wonder what points on an old map these markings were made for.
As with a lot of the gear on WPG, this Map Case is also superb for use in modern hiking/bush-walking, as well as period re-enactment. I spent years trying to track down the modern equivalent of this Map Case and it's nowhere near as good.
