This is now my favourite of WPG's caps comforter. For info, it seems to be a wool blend and stretches to a good set after rinsing and wearing for a day or so. The colour, a dark taupe, is good for me as an all-season outdoor colour (I'm not a re-enactor). Out of the bag, it appeared to be a bronze acrylic knit and excessively long at 80cm. On rinsing in lukewarm soapy water, however, the smell suggested a wet wool element, the glossy acrylic look disappeared and, after folding, the 'bonnet' took a gentle stretch to fit my size 59 (7 3/8) head comfortably with minimum itchiness. The damp, folded cap comforter quickly set to my size, stretching the centre section width and reducing the overall length to my ideal 72cm. The material allows the flap side to lie quite flat and the peaks can be tucked down, under the walls, 'Brigade of Guards' style. If they do pop out later, they are unobtrusive and not at all 'Thunderbirds'. In short; I prefer this size and material to the pre-2024 WPG UK wool cap comforters. Even if is slightly itchy, it is a lot less itchy than the India pattern wool cap comforter (and the colour is almost as good), whilst it stretches and folds better than those or the WPG green (probably acrylic) cap comforter.
