This jacket is very well made of a densely woven cotton poplin material. It is good protection against cold winter winds, but it should be noted that the jacket is unlined. The wearer must rely on multiple layers beneath it in order to stay truly warm. The five large pockets are a plus. If the original jacket had been lined I suspect it would have been one of the most popular and enduring pieces of cold weather clothing issued by the Army in WWII.
