The jacket is very well made of a densely woven cotton poplin material. While it offers good protection against cold winter winds, it should be noted that the jacket is unlined. The wearer must rely on multiple layers worn beneath it to stay truly warm. The five large pockets are a plus. I suspect that if the original jacket had been lined, it would have been one of the most popular and enduring items of cold weather clothing issued by the Army in WWII.
