Thanks to thejungleisneutral's comment about soaking and drying the bedroll twice to build water-repellency. When one reads of all the gear an officer had to carry in his valise, the size of this bedroll becomes perfectly understandable. I have read about cots carried in such rolls although maybe this particular valise may not be best suited to that. I have been using it as general luggage for travel; together with a musette bag for "daily carry" items, it's pretty comprehensive. Delivery was swift and the product is excellently made and likely to survive decades of use.
