I was pretty disappointed when I opened the package. I knew I might need a leather softener, but didn't expect to see lots of tarnish on the brass. I did have to buy a brass polish, and just using felt pads and elbow grease I was able to shine it up. Sort of felt like I was restoring an original. However it all worked out, it's a nice quality belt, the sizing is accurate, and in the end its going to look great with my original 1930s officer's set.
